Imo Assembly approves a bill for skill development
A measure mandating the development of skills and handicraft in elementary and secondary education as well as the introduction of such programs in the state’s postsecondary institutions was enacted by the Imo State House of Assembly.

Tuesday’s plenary session saw the passage of the law, which was sponsored by Mr. Gilbert Nwosu, the member for Oguta state constituency.
The House Committee on Education confirmed that the bill was brought for a second reading in the hallow chambers on Thursday, January 31, 2024.
Shortly after the bill was passed, Nwosu was praised by Speaker Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe for her active participation throughout the bill’s discussion.
Olemgbe, who also serves as the state representative for Ihitte-Uboma, declared that the state legislature operating under his direction will keep devoting the necessary attention to laws and motions that affect the people and improve the state’s growth.
Speaking to reporters from the House of Assembly in his office, the lawmaker shed light on the plan and stated that it would lessen school dropouts’ excessive reliance on white-collar jobs.
According to Olemgbe, a large portion of the nation’s unemployment rate stems from school dropouts’ reliance on the government to find them jobs when none are available.
The reason you see young people wandering the streets is because graduates suffer from a lack of expertise. But with this bill in effect, the stories would be altered.
Following the vote, Olemgbe gave the clerk instructions to forward the approved law to Senator Hope Uzodimma, the state governor, for his approval.
